Servicing Sewing Machines

Thursday, October 18th, 2012

Sewing machines like a car have internal workings that need to be cleaned and sometimes oiled to keep them going.  Don’t presume it can go for ever, because it won’t.  A yearly service will give extended years of pleasure.

Correctly wound bobbins

Wednesday, October 17th, 2012
Your sewing machine will work well if your bobbins are wound correctly
Threads tails hanging from the bobbin can cause jamming and thread breakage.  Use the recommend bobbin for your machine to avoid skipped stitches and damage to your bobbin casing. Never over wind your bobbin or try using a loosely wound bobbin

Cleaning Your sewing machine after use

Tuesday, October 16th, 2012

Clean your machine after every project, each machine is different but a routine clean will not take very long and the instruction will be in your manual.  One thing you should always remember though is never blow into your machine yourself, because your breath contains moisture that can cause corrosion late.  You should be taking off your throat plate, and clean inside the bobbin area as well as under the feed dogs.

Keeping your Sewing Machine Clean

Monday, October 15th, 2012

Keeping your sewing machine clean will keep it working optimally

Lint grim and animal hair in your machine can create all sorts of problems. In this day and age there are circuit boards and computerized components that dirt can create havoc so try keeping your machine from open windows and keep it covered up when you’re not using it.

Preventative Maintenance 2

Sunday, October 14th, 2012

There is a second tip with the needle used in your so machine. The needle you use should be compatible with the fabric and the thread. This will help your sewing machine sew more smoothly. Make sure the needle is not too small for the thread and they are the correct size for the fabric you are sewing. For example you can get speciality quilting needles is sizes 75/11, 80/12 and 90/14 these are slightly rounded, slim and acute. The staff at your local quilting/sewing machine store will gladly help. One other important point cheap is not necessarily good, spending a couple of extra dollars can always save you headaches later.
Please let me kow if you find this useful or not
